Common BMW Oil Leaks

If you notice oil on your driveway, a burning oil smell in your cabin, or a low oil light on your dashboard, it is extremely important to have a reputable BMW repair shop check for leaks right away. If too much oil is lost, damage to the BMW engine is inevitable, and a new engine may even be needed.

BMW oil leaks from the engine area are a common problem that we see quite often at Southwest Autowerks. These leaks are recommended repairs in order to prevent more costly damages.

BMW Valve Cover Gasket Leaks

Valve cover gasket leaks are common on some BMW models, such as the X5, after as little as 60,000 miles. In some cases, the valve cover also needs to be replaced.

BMW Oil Pan Gasket Leaks

Another BMW oil leak that we see frequently is an oil pan gasket leak.  BMW engines have an oil pan on the bottom side of the engine, which allows for easier access for engine repairs.

BMW Oil Filter Housing Gasket Leaks

The third common BMW oil leak we see from the oil filter housing gasket.  The oil filter housing has a rubber gasket that hardens and leaks over time.
